At Jam Jar Shop we are very proud of the teaching base we have set up at Jam on the Hill - our classes are
very popular and attract people from all over the country.
The established
Jam Making Classes are all day, with lunch and afternoon tea provided, along with
the teaching and ingredients - everything included in fact - and you take home everything that you make, together with
a copy of The Jam Makers Journal.
We are concious that not everyone has a whole day to spare or can justify the cost so we have devised
a whole new range of
Quick Classes. They will be single technique with ingredients, teaching and light
refreshments included, taking no more than 2-3 hours. There is a choice of morning or afternoon, weekdays
mainly with a few weekend choices. You will take home everything that you make. Either choose one
for yourself or they make a great present - either book directly or give via a Jam Jar Shop gift voucher.
Every aspect of preserving is covered by one or other of the courses - all you have to do is choose!
There are six places available on each Quick Class so why not make up a group of friends and come along
together - or build in as part of a hen party! Or corporate team building maybe?
All courses are held at
Jam on the Hill in The Old Smithy, a charming 17th
century building on the village green in Burley, Oakham - in the heart of Rutland. Take a look at what's on offer and book early to ensure a place.
We are also offering our
Artisan & Professional Days - come along for the day and meet an Environmental Health Officer
and a Trading Standards Officer - there will be two lectures plus an opportunity to ask questions. Lunch and
afternoon tea provided and all course notes.
There will also be opportunities to take a
Food Hygiene Certificate qualification if you are thinking of
making preserving a career choice. A whole day course with lunch and afternoon tea provided, please
book via the website

It was a well organised day in an excellent venue: well equipped and good quality produce. Friendly helpful staff including receptionist when I booked course. Thank-you for a very enjoyable day.
Really enjoyed my day, not only was it informative but it was so much fun. I have already recommended it (the class) to several of my friends and work colleagues. I loved the beautifully packaged confirmation. Opening the envelope was like opening a present, that’s when the real excitement and anticipation began. - Pauline
